Suspending a Prescription

Suspend Rx provides the ability to temporarily inactivate a prescription until a specified date, at which time PharmaClik Rx automatically reactivates the prescription. The prescription automatically re-activates on the specified date; if the prescription is non-retail, it returns to its previous active group Rx status (e.g. a prescription that was previously a ‘W’ group Rx status will return to ‘W’).

When a prescription is suspended, the Active flag is removed from the profile and all remaining refills are retained. The suspended indicator *S* appears in the profile. If this is a non-retail prescription, the group Rx status changes to an inactive status. The following steps apply to all provinces except British Columbia.

A notes function provides the ability to document the reason why the prescription is being inactivated. The note will be documented in the Discontinued Prescription window and will be linked to the prescription. Although the notes function is available, it is not necessary to document why the prescription was inactivated or discontinued.

  1. Open the patient’s profile.
  2. Press the Active flag for the prescription.
  3. The Inactivate Rx prompt appears. Choose Suspend Rx and enter a date in the reactivate on field.
  4. Press the OK button.
  5. The Discontinued Prescription window appears. You can document why the prescription is being suspended:
    • To document why the prescription is being suspended, enter notes in the Prescription Note box and make a selection from the Discontinued By dropdown list (optional). Press the OK button.
    • Do not enter any notes and press the OK function button if you do not wish to document why the prescription is being inactivated.
  6. The screen returns to the profile and the Active flag is deselected for the prescription. Press the Save or OK button. (The available button depends on the how you accessed the profile).
